Lightera, a subsidiary of Furukawa Electric Group, has launched mass production of 13,824-core ultra-high-density optical cables for hyperscale data centers. Meanwhile, Furukawa Electric has established a second optical cable factory within its Mie Plant (located in Kameyama City, Mie Prefecture), and has constructed and launched a dedicated production line for ultra-high-density optical cables. This capacity expansion enables a more stable and flexible response to the high-density, high-capacity network requirements of hyperscale data centers.
This 13824-core optical cable boasts a transmission capacity twice that of traditional products. Utilizing an innovative high-density design, it intermittently bonds 16 thin optical fibers with a diameter of just 200 micrometers into a rollable ribbon structure, successfully keeping the outer diameter of the cable within 40 millimeters. This significantly enhances the efficiency of constructing high-capacity optical fiber networks in confined spaces.
